Ms. Hunt's Kindergarten Class
Instructor: Hunt

Hello Kindergarten Parents,

My name is Ms. Alexandra Hunt and I am proud to announce I will be your child's teacher for the 2014- 2015 school year! I am happy to be back for my second year teaching Kindergarten at Maugham†Elementary School.†Prior to working in Tenafly, I worked in private Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms for 8 years while completing my degree in Family and Child Studies from Montclair State University. I was fortunate enough to then complete a year of student teaching at Maugham in 2nd grade. Although teaching and enlightening children is my passion, in my spare time I also enjoy hiking, cooking, traveling and photography!

This year will be an exciting experience for your child to grow academically, socially and interpersonally. My goal is to unlock each childís individual learning potential in a safe and fun environment. Throughout the year, students will develop skills imperative to becoming a proficient reader, as well as, important mathematical skills and concepts. Students will learn to cultivate original thoughts and translate them into stories, books, and personal narratives in writing. In addition, students will experience science and social studies by participating in hands-on activities, celebrations, and simply by observing the world around them. Children will practice appropriate social skills and grow lifelong and meaningful friendships.

You are your childís first teacher! Communication between teacher and parents is key for a successful year- no issue is too small and no question is too silly! I am always available via email at ahunt@tenafly.k12.nj.us. I am also available for private conferences through the school office at (201) 816-7705.

Itís going to be a super year!†wink

Announcements
Letter Sounds Scoping Sequence
Below is a link to the order of letters and sounds we will be introducing to our students. Your child will also come home with a weekly newsletter stating the letter sound learned and specific sound activities, games and teaching points conducted. In addition, it will state what Sounds in Motion letter sound we learned, which usually is the same as our weekly sound. Mrs. Schwartz, our speech pathologist, conducts SIM once a week in our classroom while we do various lessons from our Phonics First program throughout the week. Although they are two different programs, they tie in together quite and use many of the same methods, which is why we choose to expose our children to both. Hope that clears things up! :-)
